How to Make Your Reed Last Longer

Lately, the repair shop has seen lots of woodwind instruments being brought in for repair that have reeds still on the mouthpiece, and the mouthpiece still connected to the neck!

That is a perfect way to break your reed or chip it. After every playing session, you need to remove the reed, put it in a reed holder, take the mouthpiece off the neck, and swab out the instrument, including the neck or barrel. This will lengthen the usable life of your reed, extend the life of the neck cork, and keep the body of the instrument clean and dry.
